The Manchester Open
The event was won by Rob Hall who played well all weekend setting the highest Break of 148 in the round robin stages. Despite the snow and frost and winter vomiting bug which kept a couple of players away we had a decent attendance with lots of local players entering, some for the first time.
There were some good results for the local players with 84 year old Ray Hobman from the Bury league getting to the last 16 and Trevor Smith reaching the plate final.
Mathew Peaker from the Huddersfield league also played really well this weekend with some really flowing all round play taking him to the final with a string of breaks his highest being 88.
In the Final he was overwhelmed by Rob Hall who seemed to switch up a gear knocking in string of break to win 428 (102,95,70,82,79) – 77

All the Jersey results and accounts for the 2015 Venue Will be put on the site as soon as I get back from the IRISH OPEN -EUROPEAN OPEN
The Jersey Joint venture to-gether with the EABA and the Jersey B&S Association took place at the First Tower Billiards club in St Helier on Fri -Sat and Sunday 9th–11th May 2014.
A very competative competition with 32 entries in 8 groups of 4 players see result on results page.
Clive brought over 12 top class referees to assist him in his duties and even though some referees played in the competition we had other players wanting to ref which made light work of the duties.
A massive big thanks go’es out to the First Tower -Jersey B&S for their Welcome and Hospitality they gave to all involved and even putting Players up in their own homes , the constant taxi service both too and from the airport , the Jersey ladies making sandwiches and pies at lunch times, even to the Jersey B&S Prize giving Presentation night raffle letting our guys take home some of the prizes ie: Dave Smith jun £300.00 —Chris Ellis winning a hand spliced Cue & Case with extensions etc worth in excess of £200. And finally how can you top the evenings out 40+ on the social nights out and the Buffet night with a fantastic duo of Aonghus & Clive as a double act if you did not attend that night then let me tell you it was your loss because I have never seen so many people crying with laughter, We all know how entertaining Aonghus is but Clive had them rolling in the isles.
Thank you Guy and your committee for all the hard work over the last year.
THANK YOU JERSEY
EB-Series is an informal organisation formed by a group of players to promote and arrange weekend Billiard Events. Most of the players in these events will be familiar with previous events from the now defunct EBOS series and World Billiards. These were held over a period of 5 years and involved great Billiards but mixed with a great Social aspect off the table. Since the take over of these events by World Billiards it has been felt by many players that these events have lost the social side of the game.
As many players attended these events without any hope of winning them, but instead enjoyed all aspects of the game and had a great social evening and fun weekend, players had missed these events and a group of these decided to attempt to bring back this social side of the game and in addition play some billiards as well.
There were many aspect to the old series which were great but also many silly rules which began to stop players entering the events such as being tied to certain hotels, bad seeding etc. We aim to ensure that these events are as rule free as possible.
- They will be open to all players regardless of ability, age disability etc.
- All money taken as entry money will be paid out in cash on the Sunday of the Event
- No Hotel Rules – we will suggest a hotel nearby but not force you to stay there
- Rules just sensible ones agreed by the players
- Rules set by the promoter of the event but sensible ones enforced the the fair play rules set by the Tournament Director
- Clive Scott had agreed to be TD in as many events as possible
- There will be no committee as such in a formal structure, it will simply be people wanting to help and get on with it
- At the moment people helping out in no particular order include Clive Scott – TD, Tom Hughes -website updates, Jamies Barker – Logo design, Felix Knoll – Website graphic, Peter Stanyer – website Design, Rob Hall, Bem French , Chris Taylor. I will update this list with everyone else when I get chance. This is not a committee.
- No crazy complicated draws No Seeding simple draw out of the hat on the day, You may be in a group of death or an easy group but no one can complain except to Clive and his unfavourable hat.
- No broken promises – we hope not but you cannot please everyone all the time
- We aim to promote Billiards as a sport and NOT be affiliated with any other group. We will Not compete with any other group and always try to hold our events so they do not conflict with another event. We hope to keep our calendar online and as accurate as possible. We wish that all our players still enter and play in all the other events such as EABA, WBL, EASB to support this wonderful game.
- We have no sponsors but hope that people will support us on an event by event basis. So if you wish to sponsor the high break or 10 shot or supply a cup please do so it will be much appreciate and well received
